Guess The Date!

I'll post more about this lovely Mayhew Lissadell tomorrow and my dilemma with it (idonotneedanothersaddle, idonotneedanothersaddle, idonotneedanothersaddle...) but meanwhile have a guess at the date this thoroughly modern looking Mayhew was made?

Yes, I know it needs reflocking BADLY at the back but check out the size of those pommels, it's comfy riding time!!!

  2. I'll say 1940s, since I have a Lissadell that looks almost exactly the same.

  3. I'll go with 1919 just because! lol

  4. You definitely have a bad case of sidesaddle sickness. I thought that Mayhews didn't work for you and Hattie.

  5. My husband says "1920's" as he says that it doesn't look like an Edwardian saddle so we'll count his vote!

Mayhews don't usually but the tree on this one seems to be a good fit. I would just need the billets moving forward a bit and a point strap adding to the off-side. More expense!

  6. Could be anywhere from, what 1895 foward? They really didn't change all *that* much. But I'd go with 40s. Nick Creaton says on his site that Mayhew "Ceased trading shortly after WWII. Miss Mayhew gives patterns and records to Major Wilton of Champion & Wilton." That is a Wilton-type tab on the offside. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but hey. :) Otherwise I'd say mid/late 30s anyway. Do you know the date?

  7. Yup, it is a "Patent Wilton" tab on the off-side :) LOL, it's October 1905!
